The Coachman's Cottage, originally used as coach house, stables and smokehouse, is situated just above Hunter's Lodge, dominating the Dart valley.   You can walk straight out on to the moor, or into the woodland along the riverbank.   There are many attractive walks that can be taken from here, including the Dartmoor Way, and just half a mile away, the Two Moors Way.

It accommodates up to four people, ideally two adults and two children.   There is a large garden area for the use of guests, and a patio with a splendid view of the river.

Two views of the kitchen

Downstairs is the kitchen / dining room, equipped with electric cooker, fridge with separate freezer compartment, and microwave oven.  There is a complete set of crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils, as well as cleaning materials, tea towels, etc.

Also the shower room, with shower, handbasin, toilet and heated towel rail.  Towels are not provided automatically, but can be supplied at a cost of 50p per item.   A large bath mat is provided.

The tap water comes from our own borehole and is UV treated.  The annual tests show it to be pure and suitable for drinking.

Upstairs we have two interconnecting rooms: a lounge with a comfortable corner sofa unit, and a single bed with comfortable sprung mattress.  A second similar bed can be supplied if required.  The lounge is equipped with a colour TV with freeview channels.

There is full central heating throughout.   During the colder months heating is provided at no additional charge for up to 11 hours per day: for example, 3 hours in the morning and 8 hours in the afternoon/evening.   Any additional heating is charged at 50p per hour.

The main bedroom can be arranged as twin or double (a 2 metre wide bed).  This room has a splendid view over the Dart Valley.  All bed linen is provided.

Guests are also able to use the visitors' lounge in the main house;  this has a woodburning stove, a small library of books, many about Dartmoor, and a selection of board games.  There is also a notice board showing local walks and other information.

Twin or double bedroom

Our property has its own ecological drainage system.  We provide ecological washing-up liquid and toilet cleaner.   Please do not use any strong detergents, bleach, antiseptic or anti-bacterial cleaners.

In the garden below the cottage is a patio area in a sheltered position where you can sit and enjoy the moorland view.  A barbecue is available for your use.

Car parking is at the side of the cottage.

On arrival guests should come down through the garden to the main house, or to avoid steps can come via the road to the front door.
